Flex with PHP using ZendAMF – Zend_Db

In articler Adobe Flex with PHP using ZendAMF – first steps aimed to illustrate the integration of Flex with PHP for those who had already developed systems using AMFPHP, so I did not use the classes to access database ZendFramework. In this article show the same example but using only ZendFramework.

I will take the same example used in the previous article, just changing the class to use PHP classes abstraction database ZendFramework. We begin with our gateway.php

Using the Update Framework for Adobe AIR

One feature that I was more useful in Adobe AIR, was the addition of an API designed to make better automatic update of my application. This can be very important because not all users have the time (or desire) to return the application site to download the latest version.
This is already routine for operating systems and software that we use in day-to-day as the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome or TweetDeck.

From Adobe AIR 1.5, we have the class ApplicationUpdater and ApplicationUpdaterUI which aims to define the basic functionality to update the applications made with Adobe AIR

Manage updates and can be tricky, AIR update framework has the API's necessary for you to do this in a practical and functional. The developer can, for example:

Periodically checking for updates based on an interval or at the request of the user
Downloading AIR files (updates) from a web source
Alerting the user on the first run of the newly installed version
Confirming that the user wants to check for updates
Displaying information on the new update version to the user
Displaying download progress and error information to the user

The information is derived from XML files where you say that the latest version of software, new version of the news etc. Let's take a practical example, if you use Flash Builder should already have the files applicationupdater.swc and applicationupdater_ui.swc as a reference in the library.
We started by calling xml updateConfig.xml, that "say" to your application where are the files to update.

It must be saved in the same directory of your application, along with other xml and swf files. Now in Flex, instantiate the class ApplicationUpdateUI and setting the configuration xml file so that Flex can know where is the update.

Using the class ObjectUtil in Adobe Flex

Adobe Flex is a framework designed to create RIA applications with the Flash Platform for its ease and that is becoming very popular in recent years. There is class called ObjectUtil , a static class with a series of methods to assist and expedite the development of their applications. I'll show some examples of methods that use more.
numericCompare Compares two numeric values. return 0 is both numbers are NaN. 1 if only a is a NaN. -1 if only b is a NaN. -1 if a is less than b. 1 if a is greater than b. See an example:

compare Compares the Objects and returns an integer value indicating if the first item is less than greater than or equal to the second item. This method will recursively compare properties on nested objects and will return as soon as a non-zero result is found. By default this method will recurse to the deepest level of any property. To change the depth for comparison specify a non-negative value for the depth parameter. Return 0 if a and b are null, NaN, or equal. Return 1 if a is null or greater than b. Return -1 if b is null or greater than a. See an example:

dateCompare Working with dates always generates a bit of work, because you always have to make a series of checks, change formats etc. We have a method for comparing dates that can be very useful and streamline your work. dateCompare compares the two Date objects and returns an integer value indicating if the first Date object is before, equal to, or after the second item. Return 0 if a and b are equal (or both are null); -1 if a is before b (or b is null); 1 if a is after b (or a is null). See an example:

copy Copies the specified Object and returns a reference to the copy. The copy is made using a native serialization technique. This means that custom serialization will be respected during the copy. This method is designed for copying data objects, such as elements of a collection.

File uploads with Adobe Flex and Zend AMF

Zend AMF is an implementation done in PHP to work with the communication protocol binary AMF (Action Message Format) and is part of ZendFramework. I had to implement a system to upload files that were a little different than what is typically used in Flash, with this feature had to be integrated into the Zend AMF.
Researching a little on the net, found a solution that was simpler than I thought based on that article with a few adjustments.
Begin with our gateway to be used as endpoint in Adobe Flex.

Working with exceptions with Adobe Flex and Zend AMF

Some programming languages have the capability of working with exceptions such as PHP, ActionScript 3.0, Java, C # etc.. It is a resource that if properly used, it is powerful and help prevent future headaches for your system. An exception is nothing more than the possibility of treating an error without necessarily stop completely your program.
Support for exceptions was added in PHP since version 5, and may be using in conjunction with Adobe Flex, this case will use the Zend AMF, an implementation of the AMF protocol for working together with the Flash Platform and its server- side running PHP as part of ZendFramework.
It is considered a best practice you create your exception class extending the class Zend_Exception.

BlazeDS is an implementation in Java for working with the protocol AMF (Action Message Format) and facilitate communication between the swf and your server-side Java.
When you begin to use a resource unlike most people, you may find some problems difficult to solve. Flex with Java and the problem is the old Lazy Loading, which already was the subject of several conversations between me and Wenderson. I left this issue aside to focus on other things. We often need our system can store data locally without the need for a robust database as a MySQL or SQL Server, or even that data can be stored locally for later synchronization with a remote database. Group and ungroup data in AdvancedDataGrid

Flash Camp Brasil - I've been there!!!

The event was unprecedented in Brazil, the Flash Camp Brasil, occurred in the last days 15 and 16 in MaceiÃ³, Brazil.
To begin with, was an adventure can go to the event, with tickets and expensive hotel crowded, but it is something that would not miss for the world.
I was staying in a hostel and lucky for me, on the morning of day 15, shared a post from the street, and my notebook with a damaged battery, I decided to go to the hotel of the event to familiarize myself with the way.

We will see how to implement a service stream with Adobe Flex, Adobe Flash and Adobe Flash Lite along with the streaming server Adobe Flash Media Server.

Adobe Flash Media Server 3.5

Adobe Flash Media Server, currently in its version 3.5, has three versions available:

Adobe Flash Media Streaming Server - for transmission to the streaming content with the Flash Platform
Adobe Flash Media Interactive Server - For interactive applications, multi-way communication, videos in real-time, audio, and data sharing.
Adobe Flash Media Development Server - Contains all the features of FMIS, being free and limited to 10 simultaneous connections.

Stream with Flash Lite and Flash Media Server
Adobe Flash Lite 3.0 introduced some new ones, the ability to play video streamed directly with Adobe Flash Media Server. Adobe Flex with PHP using ZendAMF – first steps

Unsurprisingly the support of Adobe technologies that integrate seamlessly with Flex. Zend, which maintains the PHP, have your ZendFramework, a package called ZendAMF to implement such an integration between Flex and PHP. In the hands of Wade Arnold, who also holds the AMFPHP.
If took me a while to start using this implementation, had already gotten used to het AMFPHP and made several systems with it. However, their adobe recommends the use of ZendAMF for building RIAS's with Flex and PHP.
As a first example using the ZendAMF, i will use the same database meda in the previus article about Flex and Java.
Ona advantage of Flex is designed to be the view layer, and this alllow the business layer is transparent and can user either Java, PHP or .NET, need only pointo to a different endpoint according to their need.
You can download the latest version of ZendAMF the following link. More importantly, you do note need to dowload any ZendFramework to use this packag.
Once that's done, extract the files in the directory of your choice, in my case, i created one called "ZendAMF" and make sure thath the directory contains "Zend".
The objective is not to change almost anything int the form of organization which was in AMFPHP. So to test our AMF, create a file called "gateway.php" with the following code:

Adobe Flex has become a trend when it comes to view layer between developers, analyst, managers and especially users, and can integrate with virtually any language programming. In the layer of business have a good race between Java and .NET(ok ok Java takes advantage).
For the Flex can integrate seamlessly with Java, you need a gateway(a device that works in any layer of the ISO/OSI to win "differences" between networks, manipulating and converting data). that can convert the native data types of Flex to data types native to Java and vice versa using AMF protocol..

The AMF(Action Message Format) is protocol with open specification, compact and tranvels in binary format, and the ActionScript 3.0, will be the AMF3 supported data type specific to AS3.
Today we have several implementations that support AMF3, we use BlazeDS as a gateway for communication in ActionScript 3 and Java.

Create a new project type "Dynamic Web Project" and name it "Contacts".
Select the "Target Runtime" as JBoss and "Configurations" with "Default Configuration for JBoss v4.2.

In "Web Module" does not need to change anything, click Finish.

Done that we can begin our coding, but we will insert into project the BlazeDS libraries, if you downloaded the bin BlazeDS, just unzip the "blazeds.war" with some winrar and copy the diretory "WEB-INF\lib" into our project in "WebContent\WEB-INF\lib", so then d the same thing with the directory "WEB-INF\flex" and the file "WEB-INF\web.xml".
Configure JBoss to start the eclipse project and add the "Contacts" to be publised automatically on start JBoss (if you have not configured yet, follow the steps in this link).

In the constructr instantiate the class from the database, the following method is to list the data from the database, returning a List of Java that fed my DataGrid in Flex, the rest of the methods (insertm update and delete) just let me return a Boolean.

Creating custom windows with Adobe AIR

Adobe AIR allows you to customize the windows of their applications, by default, Adobe AIR uses the layout of the windows operating system (Windows, Mac, Linux), in Flex you have the option of using FlexChrome(especially that i am not very fan).
Show a simple example using Adobe Flex, Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 and Adobe Flash CS4.

Adobe Flex

In Flex Builder, create a project of type "Desktop application", by default it will create two files, one .mxml and one .xml responsible for the application settings.
The .xml file, change the follwing tags: systemChrome e transparent.

We configure our application to not use the Windows style operating system which is transparent. If run the application, we see that window appears pattern Flex (FlexChrome). However it is not what we want yet.

Adobe Flash CS4 or CS3

To create application in Adobe AIR with Adobe Flash CS3, you need to upgrade. Visit Adobe AIR Update for Flash CS3 Professional. Adobe Flash CS4 comes with native support for building applications on Adobe AIR.

Create a new file type "Flash File(Adobe AIR)" and add three components of the type "Button" on stage. They are respectively the buttons to minimize, maximize, restore and close. The first time you compile the FLA, it create one file .xml of your application. To configure it, just go to File->AIR Settings...
Edit the information to your preferences, do not forget to check the option Window Chrome as "Custom Chrome(transparent)", its configuration file should look something like the following:

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 or CS3

To use the Adobe AIR with HTML/Ajax, i will use Adobe Dreamweaver CS3, but nothing prevents you from using your editor and compile using the Adobe AIR SDK.
With Dreamweaver is possible to have access to API code hints specifies Adobe AIR for JavaScript, simply install the folowing extensions:

In the item "Site" Dreamweaver will appear two new options (Create AIR File and AIR Application Settings). Create a new HTML document and the Files windows, next to Site->AIR Application Settings. Complete the required information, you will have create one file .xml with the settings of your application, its content should be as below:
